Disciple of the World or Disciple of Christ ?

Hi Family, and Friends,

Luke 6:39 -40 And He spoke a parable to them: “Can the blind lead the blind? Will they not both fall into the ditch? A disciple is not above his teacher, but everyone who is perfectly trained will be like his teacher.” Mat. 15:12 – 14,

It seems that time goes by so quickly and I have had some things on my heart to communicate with you all but have not gotten them down and sent until now. One of the principles that I have learned in ministry comes from the teaching of our Lord about discipleship. Jesus taught his disciples that they were not to be like the Pharisees whom he said were “the blind leading the blind” Ultimately that is what all the people of the world are, blind guides leading the blind. In these same passage Jesus says, “a disciple when he is fully trained will be like his teacher”. So, the choice we are given to make is; 1. Are we going to continue to follow the world and its blind ways? 2. Or are we going to follow Jesus, and learn to “be like our teacher” to live in Him, and for Him?

As used in the Bible discipleship is a complex relationship dealing with the very foundations of how we are to learn to live. Discipleship is more than learning to ski, or hunt, or acquire skills for a new job. In the sinful world of man, people learn to live according to the sinful nature of the flesh, and the bible says that we / they are in darkness, blinded by sin. Christian discipleship is learning to live the new life in Christ, the skills, morals, values, attitudes and loving grace of our Lord Jesus, which Peter in his epistle called “God’s divine nature.” Through the light of God’s word, Jesus, we believe we are given the choice to believe in and follow Him and to learn (acquire Christ’s life) and to “walk in the light as He is in the light”.

We are given “life” in Christ (as opposed to death condemnation in the world) and as we follow Him and lovingly obey His commands and teaching we become like our teacher, and as we disciple others we teach them to follow Jesus and become His disciples. (To make Christian disciples, you must first be a disciple). Ephesians 2:1 – 9 We now are commissioned to do the “good” work of God, which He has prepared for us ahead time for each of us.

As we study the Bible and reflect on Christ Jesus, and the life He lived, and the truth He taught, and we begin to see and understand the great contrast between a truly submitted “Christian” life and life as the world lives. When we love Jesus 1st above every thing else for what He has done in our lives, and we follow Him and listen to Him and obey Him, then as His disciples our lives will begin to be like His.

My prayer for all of us as His church would be that our lives would truly begin to radiate with the pure light of Jesus and that as His true disciples, we would reflect His grace, His mercy, His faithfulness His joy, His peace, His kindness, and gentleness, His wisdom and knowledge, His self-sacrificial love for His heavenly Father and man. And we would learn to make disciples of our children, or friends, our neighbors, and our fellow workers.

May our Lord Bless Your Families

Love in Christ Jesus

Isa 42:16 I will bring the blind by a way they did not know; I will lead them in paths they have not known. I will make darkness light before them, And crooked places straight. These things I will do for them, and not forsake them.
