2 Peter 3: 10 -13 Day 40

Day 40

2 Peter 3: 10- 13 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up. Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat? Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.

Peter is prophesying of the future or our world, and sharing what he has been taught by Jesus and the Holy Spirit. Today we can certainly see the reality of the passing away of our world and the universe, but the “day of the Lord” will bring about the destruction of the creation suddenly unexpectedly “as a thief in the night”. Swift judgment is coming, and quoting Jesus; “But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only” Mat 24:36  Yet we have His promise for new heavens and a new earth!

The question Peter asks is profound and challenging; “what manner of persons ought you (we) to be in holy conduct and godliness looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God?” Are we?
