2 Peter 1:19 – 21 Day 34

Day 34

2Peter 1:19 – 21 And so we have the prophetic word confirmed, which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts;   knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation, for prophecy never came by the will of man, but  holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.

Peter now attests to the fact that they have witnessed the confirmation of the prophecies of the Jewish Scriptures concerning Jesus the Messiah. We are exhorted to “heed (pay attention to them) as a light that shines in a dark place, “until the day dawns and the morning star rises in our hearts” By reading and learning the God given prophecies of old we will gain the “light” of understanding in our own hearts.

Peter tells us that for our part we do well to heed (to pay attention to) and learn what God has already revealed through His word (the Old Testament) , and it seems appropriate now to add the New Testament to this admonition.

Prophecy = a discourse emanating from divine inspiration and declaring the purposes of God, whether by reproving and admonishing the wicked, or comforting the afflicted, or revealing things hidden; esp. by foretelling future events      (Thayer’s Lexicon)
