Considering Our Future Accomplishments

Something to consider as we begin the year 2013:

During the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus taught us to do good things to please God   Matthew 6: 1-4

1 “Take heed that you do not do your charitable deeds before men, to be seen by them. Otherwise you have no reward from your Father in heaven. 2 Therefore, when you do a charitable deed, do not sound a trumpet before you as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory from men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. 3 But when you do a charitable deed, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4 that your charitable deed may be in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will Himself reward you openly.

There is another passage in Ephesians 2:10 which  tells us that as Christians, “we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”

Whatever purposes we set out to accomplish in the coming year, they will only come from one of two sources of motivation.  They will originate from our own selfish interests and desires, or they will originate from the Spirit of God living in us, to accomplish His purposes and calling on our lives, for His glory.

May we all be steadfast in our commitment to keep Him first in our lives and to serve Him faithfully, seeking to understand and to accomplish the “good works” that He has prepared for each of us to do!
